How to “Paint Touch-Up” stone chips properly on your car?

Before it’s too late, fix stone chips with paint touch-ups in your car. If you don’t take care of them, they’ll rust soon, which will cause more serious issues. Avoid attempting this repair in strong sunlight or during periods of extreme heat.

What you will need:

• Auto Body Touch-up.
• Paint Denatured Alcohol.
• Polishing Compound.
• Microfiber Cloths.

STEP 1. Clean the Car Paint Chips with soap and water and thoroughly dry with a clean microfiber cloth. Rub a small amount of polishing compound over the paint chip to gently soften and rough edges. Be careful not to rub too much as you may damage the clear coat over the paint and make a cloudy mess!

STEP 2. Fix the Small Chip. Clean the area with a few drops of denatured alcohol on a clean microfiber cloth. The alcohol will remove any was or remaining dirt and grime.

STEP 3. Apply a spot of Primer using the end of a match stick. Fill the area within the stone chip, just touching the edges of the surrounding pain. Let the primer dry for at least half an hour.

STEP 4. Paint the chip. Put a small amount of paint over the primer coat. Always test the colour on a piece of paper to ensure it is a match. The test will also give you a feel for how much paint to load onto the applicator brush. Apply a second coat about one hour later. Let the paint cure for several days and rub it out gently with polishing compound to feather the edges of the repair.

NOTE: Look up your vehicle’s year, make and model in the booklet at your auto parts store. You’ll find a list of factory colors that cars the same as yours were painted that year. If you don’t know the colour number for your car, you can locate it on your vehicle identification plate which is usually located under the hood near the radiator.
